About Art Therapy
How clients can use Art therapy to explore theit thoughts and emotions
Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses the creative process of making
art to improve a person’s physical, emotional and mental well-being.
This is particularly fruitful when working with clients who find verbal
communication difficult or find their problems too abstract or complex to verbalise,
as they can explore and communicate their feelings through creativity. Additionally,
for clients who suffer from anxiety or ADHD, art therapy involves a lot of tactile
elements which helps to prevent overthinking and brings clarity.
The art making process can be an excellent way to understand, unload or release
emotions, reduce stress and improve self-esteem and awareness.
It is focused on the doing, observing how things unfold, rather than the fixation on
the outcome. Simply, it is not about creating a thought-out pretty piece. It is about
communicating with the unconscious.
